Former NFL TE Jimmy Graham has publicly shared that at age 9, his stepfather dropped him off at the doorstep of a group home, telling officials his mother would return.
Graham has recounted that this abandonment involved the figure “$98” — referencing the child support amount his mother was collecting from his biological father, which he says became his perceived “worth” at that time.
Graham says that after being left at the group home, he was subjected to abuse by older children, including beatings, and that he struggled emotionally through that period.
His mother later retrieved him after months, but instability continued; he was again placed in a group home around age 11.
